Even if you use Internet Marketing, such as Social Media or a Blog to promote your products, at some point an opportunity may present itself for you to do so in person. In fact, as I’ve stated before, you should take advantage of offline marketing to help promote yourself. Just like with Internet Marketing, there’s a certain etiquette that you should have, if you don’t want people to run when they see you coming. So, what do you do or say to folks, in order to not make them feel like you’re blatantly pitching to them?

Offer your product or have people sample for free

Ok, maybe I’m a little biased with this one. One of my previous Direct Sales companies sold food mixes as their product. Having worked in an office where you could bring in food and leave it in the cafeteria for everyone to munch on worked wonders.

You can do this with many products that are offered in Direct Sales, in a variety of ways. For some things you may have to get creative, but the point is to get the product in their hands and let the product speak for itself. If you have an issue with offering your product for free, then having them try a sample may work. Additionally, letting them see the product at work would be just as effective.

Remember though, you’re not trying to make a sale, you’re just trying to offer them something that can benefit them. In the case of the food that I took to work, I didn’t say that I made a dish with my food mixes from my company. I just made the dish, set it out and waited for people to comment on how good it was and how I made it. Then I went into my opportunity.

Wear something that will attract their attention to your opportunity

Some Network Marketing companies actually offer wearables, like t-shirts, aprons or hats that have a slogan, or a company logo, that you can order. It would actually benefit you to buy and wear some of the items that they have to offer. If your company doesn’t offer these types of items, then a quick visit over to Vistaprint.com, to have a t-shirt made, with a catchy phrase about your company or product will work as well.

The key here is that people will notice what you’re wearing, and become curious about what it means. Thinking outside of the box works wonders here, as it should be something that will draw attention. When the curious stranger asks, then you can tell them about your opportunity.

Be seen using your product as much as possible

This one may be related to the first one, a little bit. The success of this depends on your product. Think about Jamberry Nails as a great example of this. The best way to initiate conversation with someone about your Jamberry business, is to simply wear the product. People will see your nails, compliment you, and then ask you where you got your nails done, etc. It doesn’t get any easier to engage in conversation with someone than that, right?

Have you ever gone to a trade show, or a vendor fair? This is the exact concept that is used by vendors, to sell their products. It should be no different with the products that you are offering through your Direct Sales business.

Wearable items really work well in this category, but again, you may have to think outside of the box for your product. Case in point, I’m putting my product on display right now as you’re reading through my blog, by sharing tidbits of information that is offered through Leaders Club training.

Conclusion

One thing to note with these suggestions, is that they should be covert, like the title says.

Do not focus on selling your product during the initial conversation. Trying to oversell or making the person feel like they’re being pitched to may ruin the opportunity to convert them.

As an example, I offer free advice and tips through my articles without creating any pressure for anyone to buy anything, ever. If they are interested in learning more, then I provide them with a way to either contact me or view my opportunity.

So, instead of trying to convert a lead or close a sale, offer to send them additional information, by getting their email address or other contact information. You will find that people are less hesitant about giving out their email addresses, than they would be about giving out other personal information. Also, asking to connect on Facebook may be a more comfortable situation for them as well.

Either way, you now have the means to contact them to continue forming a relationship, and be able offer more information to convert them. If you have any ideas or suggestions, then I would love to hear them.
