Why Your Leads Should be Qualified

I’ve talked about the importance of leads in a few articles now. It seems like there’s a general awareness of what a lead is and why it’s an important aspect of building your business, but not so much regarding having quality leads. A recent conversation that I had with another network marketer has prompted me to dive into the area a little more.

I recently placed a few ads in various places on the Internet, promoting my business opportunity with Leaders Club. My latest response was a somewhat surprising one, in that the person was contacting me for a completely different reason, from my business opportunity. She was contacting me for hers.

She had received my contact information using Lead Scraping software. She sent me an email in response to my ad, and had an email signature that had her website in it. Out of curiosity, I clicked on the link to look at her opportunity, which by the way, is the reason that including your website in your signature is a good idea. I had an idea that she was trying to contact me, to try to sell me on her opportunity.

Although I knew that I wasn’t interested, I thought that I would I would listen to what she had to say. If nothing else, maybe I could plant the seed about my business. We talked, and had a pleasant conversation, but at the end of the day, it was just a waste of time. I wasn’t interested at all in what she was selling, but that didn’t stop her from trying.

More so, the interesting thing was that she was trying to sell me the same scraping software that she used to find me. Then the opportunity for me, would be to resell this scraping software, to others as part of their network marketing plan. The idea is to sell the fact, that you never have to buy leads again. Well, this would be contradicting my entire business opportunity, because selling leads is part of what I do under Leaders Club.

So, what happened here, and why was this a bad idea to try to sell to me? It’s because she was trying to sell me something that I didn’t need, as opposed to trying to offer me a solution that would work for my business.

It’s a perfect example on why you need to have targeted, qualified leads. Her leads were indeed targeted, but since I never express interest in her product, I wasn’t a qualified lead. This is why scraping software won’t get you as much success as having qualified leads. It was a waste of time trying to sell a lead scraping software business opportunity, to someone who sells leads as part of their business.

Since she didn’t qualify me, she never even knew, what she was offering actually goes completely against what my business is all about. But, how does she qualify me? By asking the right questions, is how. Moreover, if I wasn’t with Leaders Club, and I had expressed interest by coming to her, then she would have already known that I was a good prospect to try to get on-board with what she does.

The point is, if you don’t already know that the person is a good prospect, then don’t even try to get them to join your business. If you have to go to them, with no other information than an email and a name, then they aren’t a good prospect. If you have to try to sell them on why they should be interested in your opportunity, instead of them already being interested and coming to you, then you’re not working effectively.

This is no knock against the woman at all. In fact, it seems like 197clubsnipshe has had some success doing it exactly how she has been, when she contacted me. The thing is, she could be so much more successful, if she were trained to do it the right way. Furthermore, she has the right attitude and is someone who I would actually want in my down line.

The model that she’s currently using just isn’t sustainable long-term. It’s actually more of a pyramid scheme than a network marketing plan, and doesn’t teach good business practice. Additionally, she wouldn’t be able to replicate, what ever success she’s had, if she ever were to join another network marketing company.

This was the perfect example and opportunity for me to help explain why using quality leads are important. Yes, I can use software to get me 1000 leads a day. Or, alternatively, I can get three, targeted, qualified leads a day and have more success. I can spend a half an hour trying to convince someone who’s not interested, to buy what I’m selling. Or, alternatively, I can spend two minutes, offering someone who is already interested, a solution for their needs.
