The One Thing New Marketers Should Focus On

Recently while watching a training video, I had sort of an eye opening thought that kind of dawned on me. You see over the past 5 or six years I’ve absorbed hours upon hours of great training, and now looking back at it; I’m starting to realize how much I’ve really learned. The eye-opening part of it is this… For the new person that’s trying to figure out how to use the Internet to build a business, there is a lot of stuff that one can consume.

Trying to master all of it, or much of it at once, can drive a person crazy. There’s Facebook, Twitter, other Social Media, YouTube, SEO, Whitehat SEO, Blackhat SEO, Blogging, Content Marketing, PPC Advertising, CPA Advertising, Solo Ads, sales funnels, conversions, and more. I mean wow, that’s a lot. Learning how to market online can be frustrating, confusing, and overwhelming. The problem with this for many people is that instead of going forward with what they are learning, they just stop doing anything. If you’ve ever taken a course to study Internet Marketing, and still haven’t succeeded by applying what you have learned, then let me give you a tip. You don’t need to learn or master everything at once. In fact, you are better off just mastering one strategy, and using it until you are making good money with it. Remember this for later...

Where do you start If you were to ask what the most important thing in your online business will be, or what to focus on first, then the answer would be traffic, and converting that traffic into either customers or your down line. Keeping it simple at first, can help you build your business by reinvesting what you make initially, back into your business. Then you can work on scaling. You will only need three things to get started.

  1. Offer - In order to make money online, then you need to sell something, right?

  2. Traffic - You need to get your offer in front of people who want what you’re selling.

  3. Email List - The list is where you groom relationships with your audience.

Here you have the traffic, and your email list helps you convert your offers. The beautiful thing about Internet Marketing, is that you aren’t limited to selling what you can fit inside of four walls. That means that you have options as to what you decide to sell. More so, you can sell Network Marketing products, Affiliate products, your own products, etc., To be most effective, your offer should be tied to a sales funnel or lead capture page, so that you can capture contact information. This allows you to build your email list and follow up in the future. We’ll talk more about traffic later, but first let’s focus on that email list since I mentioned it. It’s probably no secret by now that Online Marketers swear by their email list. You can take away social media, blogs and every other medium, but don’t dare mess with their lists. That’s because they make money from their lists. A person wanting or volunteering to be on your list is a sign of trust. Furthermore, they are more likely to check your email than they are to read your blog or many social media posts.

It’s best to start your list as soon as you can, because it should be a staple in your business. It helps you to build your brand, and build a relationship with your audience. It’s also where you stand one of the best chances to convert your prospect into a buying customer.

Again, a sales funnel or lead capture page is necessary to capture email addresses, and an autoresponder is needed to schedule and send emails.

You Should Initially Focus On This Now that you have your lead capture page, and follow up email system in place, you need to focus on the last thing in the list above. Traffic! If you are a new marketer and want to know where you should be spending most of your budget, or what you should be focusing on perfecting first, then this is it. Now there are a number of ways that you can drive traffic to your offer but the good news is this… You only need to focus on, and master one traffic source to start making money. This makes it so much easier to get your feet under you, and start making money. And there are many people who are making money online that just use one traffic source. For example, it’s not uncommon to see some top earners using mostly Facebook to do all of their marketing. There are many options besides Facebook that you can use, but start with one, and once you start to make money with it, then you can move on to another. I currently use two main sources to drive traffic, and stick most of my marketing budget into those areas. But guess what? In the beginning, I focused on just one source. I really think that it comes down to a matter of preference when using a source, as long as it’s always top tier traffic. What that means is that it’s a source where you are able to get targeted, qualified leads, that are ready to buy. Don’t fall for the cheap traffic where you get a lot of clicks but no sign-ups or sales. Examples of Paid Top Tier Traffic

  • Social Media

  • Facebook

  • Twitter

  • Instagram

  • Search Engine

  • Google Adwords

  • Yahoo/Bing/AOL BingAds

  • Youtube

  • Solo Ads (Only Use Trustworthy Top Performing Vendors)

  • Pay Per View (Suggested For Advanced Marketers)

  • SEO or Organic (Not Really a Paid Source, But There’s Still Indirect Costs In The Beginning)

This is not an all inclusive, or even detailed list, but should help you get started in the right direction. There are 2nd tier traffic sources like 7Search, that will be cheaper but not as good as the ones listed above. Then there are some that're much worse. When it comes to traffic, you want quality over quantity. Whatever you decide to do, choose one, and stick with it long enough to make tweaks and figure it out. Well, now you know what to focus on, and this should be the quickest path to making money online. It isn’t a get rich quick thing by any means, but it should set you up with the best chance to see some initial success.
