5 Things to Avoid for the Network Marketing Beginner

You remember that feeling that you had when you bought your house or the new car? Or the joy and enthusiasm that you had when you first ventured into that new job position, or volunteered for your favorite charity? Well, taking the plunge into a home based business opportunity gives you that same feeling of elation when you first start. Normally, that’s a good thing, but it could also turn bad very quickly.
5) Information Overload – People really have a tendency to dive right in when they first start a Network Marketing business. While this is not a bad thing in itself, you will want to avoid trying to learn everything there is to know about the company that you signed up with, in the first few days. It’s easy to get overwhelmed. Instead space your training out at a pace that’s comfortable for you.
4) Making Money Yesterday – Let’s face it, the real motivation behind opening a home based business is the potential money and freedom. If you’re getting into a network marketing business because you need money fast, as in yesterday, then you will become very frustrated. Patience is important. Unless you’ve come from another Direct Sales company and have brought you down line with you, then it may take some time to build your business.
3) Doing it Alone – Some people choose to work with a certain type of Direct Sales company because they don’t have to do parties, or talk on the phone. That’s fine if you’re not a phone person and your strengths lie elsewhere. However, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t email, or use social media to make contact with prospects, or network with like-minded people. Network Marketing is social by nature, and is about forming relationships.
2) Comparing to Others – Admittedly, I see other successful Network Marketers and sometimes think, if they can do it then I can do it. Or there may be people who think, man I want to be like them, or have what they have. While you can use this in a positive way, it can also have a negative effect on you as well. Stop putting unnecessary pressure on yourself. You don’t have to earn seven figures to be considered successful in this business. Instead, look at what they are doing that's effective, do the same, and add your own touches. You define your own success.
1) Let’s Get Friends and Family – I’ve been given this advice multiple time when I joined a Direct Sales company. You may be feeling pretty good if you were given this advice, and have 5 thousand personal Twitter followers. But, I found out the hard way, I’m sure like we all have, that this doesn’t get results. You are far more likely to alienate people. Learn the correct way to market to people, so that they come to you. Getting qualified leads is the key here.
Not saying that making a warm market list doesn't work, but just make sure that your warm market is indeed a warm market, then approach these people the correct way. You may save some people from having to walk in the other direction, when they see you coming.
Hopefully, these are things that you haven’t already had to experience like I have. But if so, then I know that you’ve learned from them. Avoid these things, and save yourself some stress. Running a business is supposed to be work, but it’s supposed to be fun as well; especially since it should be something that you love doing. If anyone has any else to add to the list, then I would love to hear them.
