I recently went back and checked in with a few members of one of my former Network Marketing team from my previous Direct Sales company. It seems that the landscape has changed quite a bit from the time that I was with the company. So many new faces, but also so many old faces have come and gone. It was only a year ago that I was member, so not seeing many older members around lead me to thinking. Why is it that so many people quit so fast in Network Marketing?
Why people quit
Well, I think I may have the answer to that. It’s something that I’ve faced before, and it’s hard to get over sometimes. The reason that most people give up, in my opinion, is that they don’t immediately see a return on investment. That investment being both time and money; especially in the first 90 days.
If you get into Network Marketing thinking that it’s going to be quick and easy money, or that’s its not going to be hard work, then you’re wrong. Yet, I believe this may the mindset that most people have when they start. To say it another way, people’s experience will be based off of their expectations when they first start. Furthermore, their expectations are usually not how it works when running a business.
Your expectations
So, why do people have these expectations? It could be a number of reasons. The person who sponsored you could have sold you a false dream, for one. If someone told you, that if you join my down line, then you will be making thousands in 30 days, working a few hours a day, then imagine your disappointment when that hasn’t happened. When the 60 day mark comes around and you haven’t even made a few hundred dollars, you’ll be feeling completely dejected.
If you joined my down line and I told you that at the end of 6 months, then you could be making thousands, while only working a few hours a day, when 60 days comes around, you’ll be feeling like you’re own your way to where you need to be.
The other problems
Additionally, the bigger issue may be that people just aren’t patient enough anymore these days. They want everything, they want it now, and they don’t want to work too hard for it. I’ve talked about this before, you have to treat your business like a business.
I also realize, it may not be that people quite the Direct Sales business completely, they may just quit the company that they are representing. The unfortunate thing is that I believe that many just move to a different company and repeat the same actions.
Not having the support of an up-line, or at least like minded people to network with in your organization can leave you feeling alone. Some people actually don’t mind going it alone, but there is still a need for some kind of guidance and training if you’re not already well versed. However, just by the nature of Network Marketing, you should never be left without support.
Conclusion
As someone who is looking to get into Network Marketing, or, has just started recently, the most important things to realize is that, you must have realistic expectations, you must have a plan, and you must be patient and persistent. Remembering these thing will help you, especially when you’re ready to give up.
If you’ve been in the game for a while then it would still be of benefit to remember these things. And don’t be that guy, the one who over promises and then leaves your recruits to fend for themselves. You could end up being the very reason why your recruit quits.
So, in closing, just know that the difference between the person that quite, and someone who enjoys success in Network Marketing, is that they didn’t give up.
