I’ve been a part of groups, where everyone is tossing around, and sharing ideas on how to promote their Network Marketing businesses. While the ideas have been good ideas, I think that at times, the overall implementation had left something to be desired. I’ve seen good intentions, turn bad rather quickly. So, what is it that you could be doing wrong when marketing your business?

Spamming your website link – I know you’re excited when you get your welcome email, with the links to your back office and website. You can’t wait to get the word out and let everyone know of your new opportunity.

Besides, with the Internet available these days, all you have to do is get your website link out there, in front of as many faces as possible. You start posting your link on Social Media every hour, and emailing everyone that you know.

Sounds like a good idea, so why is this wrong. While you do want to get yourself out there, posting links on Social Media and saying come join this great opportunity 20 times a day will likely exhaust your viewers.

People need to understand why it will benefit them to join your team. There are hundreds or thousands of other people out there that are selling your same opportunity. You should be selling yourself as well as selling your opportunity. Instead of posting the same link to your sign-up page, with a different picture each time, write content that will help people connect with you.

Only using social media - Now this one I will say with a bit of hesitance. Why, because I’ve read about people using mainly Social Media, to grow their business into a decent size. I also know people from my upline in previous Direct Sales companies that I’ve been with, that have grown a decent size down line this way.

But, is this the way that I would suggest to my down line, to build their business? Yes, but not doing so exclusively. By limiting yourself to only one channel, you are missing out on many potential prospects.

With the Internet, you now have more options for marketing yourself, than ever before. Kraft Foods has been receiving a great ROI by utilizing Content Marketing. This is an area that Network Marketers can use with good success as well. By using all of the other resources that are available on the Internet, like Email Marketing and Targeted Ads, you’ll reach a larger audience.

Also, as you’ll see below, doing offline marketing presents a great opportunity, and should not be overlooked.

Sending unsolicited links – We’ve all seen it before, and maybe some of us have actually done it. If you aren’t familiar with this, think about the time that you were reading an interesting post that has gone viral on Facebook.

As you’re looking through the comments, which are always fun to read, you see a comment with a link, about checking out someone’s amazing new way to make money.

More so, think about the text message that you received out of the blue that asks you to sign up for their web hosting, because you just bought a domain.

This not only does not work, it actually upsets people when you interrupt their daily routine to try and sell them something that they have no interest in. You may get a few clicks out of curiosity, but are they going to be really serious buyers? The answer is likely, no!

Work on getting targeted, qualified leads. You can waste time sending a bunch of links out to people who may or may not be interested in what you have to offer (counts as spamming as well), or you can focus your time and concentrate on people who you know will be interested.

Not taking advantage of offline marketing - One of the most under utilized ways to market these days is through direct mail campaigns. While everyone’s inboxes are now getting flooded, their actual mailboxes aren’t. Think about the level of competition you’ll have if you use this old tried and true method. There would be little to none, right?

Furthermore, the home parties and person-to-person meetings are still more than viable options. Parties, for some companies and Network Marketers, are still there main source of obtaining leads. Reaching out to your community, doing trade shows and fundraising activities are a great alternative for those folks that don’t like to do parties. I’ve even received leads before just by posting business cards at various businesses in my community.

There’s also one other one, that I think deserves honorable mention here, which is what I call, bad social etiquette. It’s simply being rude or doing rude things on social media, forums, comments, and so on. That’s a another article that I can see coming soon, though.

Avoiding these things will help you along the way, of growing your business. Some areas will help you remain credible, while others will simply help get more prospects. Even when there are multiple ways of doing things, there’s always a good way and a better way.
