In one of my other articles I spoke about the importance of using leads to grow your business. To put it simply, the best way to sell your business, whether it’s your product or your business opportunity, is to get people to come to you. This is where the marketing in network marketing comes into play. To often, people try to sell their friends and family on their business when they weren’t interested in the first place. But how do you get leads, and what makes a good lead?

What are leads

Investopedia, defines a lead as, “a prospective consumer of a product or service that is created when an individual or business shows interest and provides his or her contact information.” That is a very accurate definition and is the kind of people who you should mostly focus on to grow your business. Instead of pitching to the office cleaner, that you’ve seen because you’ve stayed late at your primary job one night, try to establish a way to get leads.

How do you get them

There are several ways to get a lead, especially on the Internet. It’s a matter of advertising your product or service and trying to capture the attention of someone who may be looking for exactly you have to offer. This normally requires an investment, however, it doesn’t have to be a large one. Stay within your budget.

My prefered method for generating my own leads, is to use landing or squeeze pages. It’s a simple webpage that normally describes your offering and has a form to capture the prospects information. You can create one using WordPress, Weebly or a site like GetResponse - an autoresponder with it's own landing pages. Another one of my favorites, is creating and using a blog, with a newsletter or email sign up form. There are multiple ways to advertise, or get traffic to your landing page or blog.

Of course, in the offline world, there’s nothing more tried and true than doing parties. The nice thing about parties is that you will get interest in your product, and may get someone who is interested in the business opportunity as well. These are all people who came to you, although the host was responsible for the invitation list.

Lastly, as I stated in my article, Should you buy Network Leads, there is nothing wrong with buying quality leads from a reputable source. It is an easier more straight forward way to get leads, especially if you don’t have a blog or landing pages.

Quality before quantity

The most important bit of advice that I can give in this article, is you to use need quality leads. What is a quality lead, you ask? A quality lead is a lead that was qualified, or is actually known to be interested in your offering. That may sound odd because you would think that if a person completes a form on your page, then they are interested in your product or service.

This is true, however there are ways to get leads that don’t involve people coming to you and completing your forms. There is software that people use called Lead Scrapers, that go out to the internet and finds people contact information for you. Just because you now have their contact information, doesn’t mean that you should contact them, about something they were never interested in. This is also a waste of your time and energy as well, as you could be focusing on people who are interested in your business.

Another way to get unqualified leads is to buy cheap leads from an online lead mill. If they get their list from just looking in directories, reselling an old list, or using the above mentioned scraping software, then you won’t have much success with them. More so, if you buy leads, they should be from a source where your particular offering is presented to them. My target audience is the network marketing industry, so if I buy leads, they are from Leaders Club, which markets to network marketers. That only makes sense.

Summary

Using quality leads is a big part of being able to reach the right people to grow your business. However, leads by themselves are not the end all answer to having success, with getting more members into your business. Still, using quality leads, will make life a bit easier for you, as there is an advantage to putting your presentation in front of the right people. Contacting people who have no interest, and have no clue on how you got their contact information, isn’t a good long-term strategy. So spend your time wisely, and make them come to you.
