What do I Promote First, the Product or the Opportunity

As Network Marketers, you have to balance between selling your opportunity and selling your product. Are you split between the two and can’t figure it out? Sometimes, you may find that’s it’s easier to do one, and not so easy with the other. Knowing how to approach your prospect and what to lead with is important. But which one do you lead with? Product or opportunity? Well, it all depends…
What makes sense
I lead with my product and service as this is the main strength of my business. By offering education and training, you help other marketers out, no matter if they already have a Network Marketing business or not. If you pitch the service to a targeted lead and they do not have a business already then pitching them the opportunity is the next logical step.
More so, due to my product this just makes sense. Especially because whether you subscribe as a customer, or as a consultant, you’re still placed in my down line and I get a commission. But, does this work for every Network Marketing company? It may not be logical to start with selling your product. So, that said, it all depends on your product.
Depends on your product
If you sell diet product that really works well, where people who use it, or try it get results, then they may be sold on the opportunity just from using the product. The weight lost market is a huge evergreen niche, and as such, is always in demand.
One the opposite side, if you are in a Blog Network, where the product is making money with a blog, or by joining the network, then you may want to push the opportunity more. This is oversimplified, but the point is that your product may be strong enough to sell the opportunity for you, and sometimes it won’t be.
Depends on your audience
The next thing is, it depends on your audience. I can hear you asking already. “What, I thought that we had to have targeted leads?” Well, yes we do, and that is extremely important. Keep in mind however, that you may have a chance to sell to people outside of your normal lead generating efforts as well.

You should identify, is this person a good fit for my business?
How you lead will depend on what you read about the person. In this case, you can either ask qualifying questions or jump straight into selling the product. The conversation may be more natural if you lead with the product, but you’ll have to decide that.
Summary
With so many Network Marketing companies now on the scene, there are too many variables to say that there is only one way. You’ll have to decide which is best to lead with. If you have a product that is recognizable, or in heavy demand, then leading with the product may be best. If your product or service is more focused on the networking side, then it may be best to lead with the opportunity. You can always experiment with this, and do what works best for you.
