As you can probably tell by now, I like to incorporate Internet or Online Marketing into my marketing strategy for my Network Marketing business. Using these strategies, provides some penetration into areas that I used to not be able reach with offline marketing. One of the first terms that you’ll hear about when getting into using Online Marketing is SEO. There’s a lot of information currently available on the Internet these days, but I wanted to cover this topic from a basic high level view.
What is SEO
So, what is SEO exactly? SEO has been best described as “the process of affecting the visibility of a website in a search engine’s natural or organic results.” Basically you want your website to show up on the first page of Google, when people search for your niche or product.
Why? Well ask yourself this; how often do you go past the first page or second page when you search for a term and look through the results?
On Page and Off Page SEO
Search Engine Optimization or SEO, are the things that you would do with your site in order to make sure that your site shows where most users will look. The first element is On Page SEO, which has to do with the content of your site. Is your information helpful and relevant? Do you have detailed content that engages your reader?
Google, is the most used Search Engine in the world and wants to provide good content to it’s users. Think about it like this, the reader or user that searches for information is their primary customer. If you, the reader, search for a term and get irrelevant non-useful, spammy information in return, then you’ll likely go use another search engine.
The second thing that is relevant here is Off Page SEO. Again, Google has to trust that your site is safe to put on the front page in front of millions of users. It does this by looking at what other trusted websites are saying about your site. This is normally gauged with links from these other websites, that link to your site. These are called backlinks, and there are methods to go about acquiring these types of links.
Which Hat do You Wear
With SEO, there are safe ways to rank your site, or get your site higher towards the top position, and there are ways that Google considers spammy. Being safe means using methods that don’t go against Google’s Guidelines, as doing could result in your site not appearing in any position where users can find it.
This is the basic difference between the terms Whitehat and Blackhat SEO. Blackhat is simply implementing SEO techniques, that may not be considered the safest route to go to get your website ranked high. That’s not to say that one is more effective than the other, although there are many arguments on that. That’s a topic for another article, however.
Be Smart
Starting a website or blog can be rewarding, but it’s not easy. I enjoy being both a Network and Internet Marketer, which means I have double the challenges. However, personally, I can’t see doing one without the other. If you really want to have an edge in your Network Marketing, then adding your own blog or website can be a great thing. Just be smart about it and learn everything that you can about the wonderful world of SEO.
