Hey You... Go Brand Yourself

Ok, let’s start out by pretending that you are new to Network Marketing and have finally decided to take the plunge and get into the industry.
During your search for a good opportunity to join you come across the Work-At-Home Leaders blog. You look around and see helpful tidbits of information and Network Marketing tips. You then see that I have an opportunity available, and that you can sign up to be on my team.
Just for grins, and giggles you continue your search and come across my friend Katie’s Facebook Business page. You take a look around and notice that she seems like the main PR or spokesperson for Seacret. You notice a few deals, but mainly there are just posts about the products, and post asking you to join her team.
Then, because you’ve done a search for Network Marketing on Facebook, you eventually come across seven more people who are all promoting Seacret. Since you are looking for the best opportunity to succeed, you are open to the product, and are more so concerned with finding a good team to be on.
Think About It
Ok, let’s stop pretending now, as I have some questions to ask. Who do you think stood out the most, me or my friend Katie? Who do you think offers the most value and the best chance for you to succeed? Would you want to work with someone who has taken the opportunity and is working toward standing out and being a leader, or someone who posts a bunch of products from their company and talks about how well they work?
Why Brand?
If it’s not clear, just by my above example, then keep reading.
Branding yourself as an authority, or industry expert will help build your credibility. Once people know and recognize your name or brand in the industry, you can potentially have more people looking for you and coming to work with you in particular.
It helps you stand apart from the crowd and separates you from the rest of the thousands of consultants in your Network Marketing company. In my example above, there is nothing that makes my friend Katie stand out from the seven other people that were found. If she were able to offer certain discounts, then maybe, but of course that is strictly forbidden in Network Marketing, so that the playing field stays level.
The way to uneven the field, and that’s perfectly legal in the Direct Sales industry, is to position yourself so that you offer more value than most other reps.
What you don’t know from the above example, is that Katie first got into Network Marketing with Tastefully Simple, about six months ago. She started out with a Tastefully Simple page, and had to start all over when she left and joined Seacret. If she would have branded herself, and not looked like a one page ad for her Network Marketing company, then the transition would have been seamless.
It’s Your Business
You don’t have to have a blog to brand yourself, but I would certainly recommend one. If not, then use your Facebook Business Page to brand yourself. For example, if food is your niche, then be an authority on food, and offer advice on cooking or food preparations.
You can potentially go from promoting teas, coffee, kitchenware, chocolate and food mixes without even having to change anything. The key is to make your visitors aware that you are a Network Marketer without pushing a particular company, then adding value.
Imagine promoting one Network Marketing company for five or six years, and then deciding that you want to change, or no longer be a part of that company. Better yet, what if they go under? Hopefully you would have established a large organization, because you would have to start all over.
The important thing to remember is that it is your business, which is a complete and separate entity from your Direct Sales company. I can continue to grow my business no matter which product or company I choose to promote. In a way, I am selling myself as someone who is reputable and offers value. My business is helping others, not selling products.
In five years do you think people will remember WAHLeaders more or will they remember Katie with Seacret more? You should find your niche and determine what your business is going to be about. No matter if you promote one Network Marketing company, or five, people will recognize you, and want to work with you.
Your entire business will be able to grow and scale better just by changing this one simple thing.
