A goldmine of information on how to effectively grow a Network Marketing business can be found on the Internet if you know where to look. With successful marketers in the niche having figured out that branding and offering value are the tickets to being able to promote product and opportunities, you can expect to see more great information and training being shared.

Of course, there are a lot of pro’s to using Online Marketing strategies like branding and sales funnels to promote Network Marketing businesses, but is there still room for error if not done correctly?

With a booming industry like Direct Sales, there are always plenty of newcomers looking to make some money from home. They are introduced to Online Marketing first by receiving a website that is provided by their Direct Sales company, then through Social Media.

At some point, smart marketers will figure out that posting links on Facebook, to their company supplied websites won’t be enough to grow their business. After reading a visually stunning site like Work-At-Home Leaders, that is packed with great content (shameless, I know *grin*), they realize that there are better ways to promote their opportunity.

But even with using advanced marketing techniques, some newer Network Marketers still tend to make the following mistakes.

Mistake #1 - Wanting the process to be free

A common mistake that I see a lot of, especially when marketers are just starting out. The first piece of advice that is handed out either from their upline or friends is to use Facebook to promote their opportunity.

Starting a Facebook Page for your business can be beneficial, but somewhere that sound advice about using Facebook turns into people spamming their links. First, on their personal profile, then their page, and finally in a Facebook group.

So what does this have to do with wanting the process to be free? Because this is usually how it starts and is a misconception, that all it takes to grow your business is posting links on Social Media for free.

I’ve seen many inquires about wanting to find a good MLM company with no start up cost.

While I get that some people may not be able to afford a large start up fee, I normally advise against having that kind of mindset. In that same breath I’ve had conversations with fellow marketers that disagree about not being able to start and own a business for absolutely no cost.

The problem is that if you are looking to start an entire business for free, then you certainly aren’t going to be willing to pay for all of the tools and the marketing that you will need to promote and grow the business.

By not willing to spend money, you are basically limited to using Social Media to spam your links. You won’t be able to use any type of effective advertising, traffic methods, sales funnels, auto responders, hosting or other tools that may be needed. Even if you are resourceful and can find a free version of everything that you need, the problem is that you won’t be able to scale your business without spending money.

Mistake #2 - Not focusing on email subscribers

I’ve seen very smart, and successful Online Marketers admit that their biggest regret is not capturing people’s emails. Even if you’re newer to Network Marketing in the online world, chances are you’ve heard the saying “the money is in the list.”

Growing your email list is important because one of the most successful marketing strategies today, is Email Marketing. An email can grab attention longer that a post on Social Media can, and can be used just as effectively. You can promote things to your own email list that you wouldn’t be able to using Social Media or Search Engine Advertising (PPC).

You build your list by getting leads, or people interested in what you have to offer. According to recent statistics, 99% of visitors don’t buy the first time and 75% have the intention to buy, but just not at the moment. Having a way to stay in front of your customer or prospect is crucial.

You don’t need a blog or website to capture people’s email address. A lead capture page will work just a well. Of course, if you have started a blog, then you need to find a way to capture the email addresses of your readers.

Mistake #3 - Thinking that branding is enough

Wow, there are a lot of great courses out there that will teach you how to build a website, and brand yourself. I’ve seen some of very successful Network Marketers coming out with amazing courses. Branding yourself is a very effective method to use when promoting your business, and more and more marketers are realizing that fact.

But, the mistake is putting some content out there and thinking that it’s going to be enough to get people coming to you. Yes, it’s a part of Attraction Marketing, and it makes it easier to sell when you’ve established trust, but people still have to find you.

Promote, promote, promote! You still have to find ways to get traffic to your site and eyes on your product or offer. There are many ways to drive traffic, but don’t just write a great post, and then sit back and relax. You have to write a post, and then get active trying to get it out there.

Also, don’t neglect the channels that are available for you to market in. I normally promote my blog in a few places, as well as promote my individual offers in other channels. Just don’t spread yourself thin and stick to one or two channels that you can work out, and perfect.

Most successful marketers have all started from zero and have made plenty of mistakes along the way. Most will be open and honest about their struggles. I’ve made mistakes and still do, as I experiment with what works for me and what doesn’t. Just don’t let these mistakes or any others that you make hold you back.
