What do you do after you’ve just spent a good sum of money to advertise your business, and your marketing efforts have paid off with several new sign ups?
Do you:
A) Celebrate with the latest Miller Brewing product to hit the store, or the newest coffee creation that your local coffee house is promoting
B) Keep recruiting and promoting your business so that you can continue to grow your downline
C) Welcome them to your team and provide them with helpful information that will show them the ropes regarding their exciting new opportunity
D) Grin, and go on about your day
Want to know the answer? Well, there is no right or wrong answer, but there is a 'best practice' answer. The 'best practice' answer is C.
In Network Marketing your success hinges on whether or not you can grow an effective team. Many marketers put so much focus on the recruiting aspect of their business, that they forget about the sponsoring part. If you are a great recruiter, you can have a lot of people sign-up to your downline and do nothing else. You can enjoy some success, but you’ll likely miss out on the full potential of your team and income earnings.
Team building is very important when it comes to sponsoring. Your downline would be more willing to work together if they are in an atmosphere that encourages it. Team building in Network Marketing is not what you normally do in a traditional place of work due to the distance. But it is quite possible to do, and be effective at, and is quite necessary.
When everyone gets along, you’ll notice that things just seem to work better, and that success is contagious.
Although it is possible to do effective team building at a distance, it is anything but easy. It simply takes time, and a culture needs to be developed. It is not something that can be done overnight, nor can you force people to participate.
You can, however, encourage them, and the more people that do participate, the more other people become interested in participating.
When creating an effective way for your team to communicate and learn from each other, the best method to use is to create a Facebook group, forum or Mastermind group.
Here’s some ways that you can bond and encourage positive interaction:
1 - Set an Example - As the team leader, it is your responsibility to provide a positive atmosphere, and establish good relationships with your team. Don’t provide favoritism to any members and make everyone feel welcomed and comfortable.
2 - Encourage Teamwork - When your team works together by sharing information, practices and offering help, they build relationships with each other. Some people will want to hold information close to the chest in fear that it will later come back and work against them, but the team is more successful if everyone shares in a piece of the pie. You should do all that you can, to encourage this behavior from the group and make everyone comfortable with sharing.
3 - Build Relationships - Traditionally, you would build relationships with your team by taking them on group functions, or doing team building activities. With an online business, you may have to think outside of the box. You can really get to know your team by hosting team only (Google) Hangouts. Actually seeing the person that you are talking to can really add an element of trust. You can also try to host fun events and contests for your team through your group platform.
When you can build and establish a good team, many good things can happen. Your business will run better and be more successful, but just as importantly, you will grow leaders. These individuals will pass down the knowledge and culture that you’ve developed with them, to their teams and in turn bring out the good qualities of others. Team building is extremely value added in Network Marketing, and should be encouraged in one way or another with your team.
