There are a lot of proponents and opponents out there for the Network Marketing industry. As such, you will see many opinions on the subject, both positive and negative. But there are times when the negative opinions can actually come back and have a negative effect on your business. Particularly, when you are involved with a Network Marketing company that folks don’t really understand, and therefore think is a scam.
How can you overcome such an unenviable position to be in?
Well, first realize that you will get objections from people who have some kind of fear about either buying from, or spending money with you. In most cases it may not even be about the money, but about some other reason that you will have to unsurface.
The guys over at Changingminds.org, have put together a nice list of Objection Overcoming Techniques that you should use to deflect them when you get them.
However, handling the ‘I read about your business being a scam’, objection, can be a tough one to overcome.
Here is the main thing that you can have in your arsenal that should help you overcome that particular objection.
Credibility!
Before anyone is going to buy anything from you, or join you in a business, they have to trust you. Normally the chain goes like this; they don’t know you, then get to know you, then they trust you, and lastly they buy from you.
Even with the Internet and not being able to meet the seller face-to-face, people still want to know something about you to determine whether or not you are trustworthy. So the best way to establish credibility and thus become trustworthy is to do one or both of these two things.
Have an online presence, or have referrals/testimonials ready to use.
In my article ‘Hey you...Go Brand Yourself', I explain how branding and maintaining an online presence, will help you establish credibility.
Having referrals, or testimonials can work in two ways. Either have them about your own business, or be able to show them something where real people are having success with your Network Marketing company that they are questioning.
Referrals are often overlooked, but they represent real people who are A) considering you to be a trustworthy, and B) putting their own credibility on the line as well. And, people are really reluctant about putting their names on the line unless they really believe in the person, or product.
I would love to hear your ideas and thoughts about ways to overcome this particular objection.
