How To Get The Best Out Of Your Downline

Any manager will tell you that it can be a challenge to effectively manage people. Fortunately, in Network Marketing, we don’t really have to manage people (unless you hire an assistant) but we still have to be able to squeeze the best out of the people that we recruit into our downline.
One thing to keep in mind is that you don’t want just anyone to join your team, and should be selective. You can do this with qualifying questions. Otherwise, you could be wasting your time trying to work with someone who will never put in the amount of effort required to succeed.
To work with those who will put in the required effort, the following tips can help you be a leader, and set your downline up for success.
Help Them Set Goals
Goal setting is important, in life, in normal jobs, and in business. It helps everyone prioritize their time, focus and effort. When setting goals, you need to make sure that they are measurable and attainable. I’ve always used the SMART goal model, but there are many more that work as well.
For those unfamiliar with smart goals:

The goals must be meaningful, and must be ones that you team member selects for themselves. Your job would be to help them get to the point of being able to make goals, and coach them through the process if they are unfamiliar with how to make SMART goals.
If goals are met then great, that means that they are seeing success in their business, if not, then they need to be held accountable. Tact and a motivational approach, would serve you better here as you are not their boss.
Give Them A Plan
A lot of Network Marketers think they have an idea of how to promote their business but it’s usually limited. What is meant by giving them a plan is basically giving them a duplicable system. If you are enjoying success in your business, then there are some things that hopefully you must’ve figured out.
Normally by developing a plan to attain goals, you are putting together a set of actions to help achieve the goal. With a system, you have all of the actions laid out for them and all they have to do is follow that same system that is supplying you with all of your leads and prospects.
Furthermore, make sure that you have given, or have at least given them access to the proper training.
Consistently Follow-Up With Them
The follow-up is where it all comes together. This is where you will periodically check in with your team members to make sure that everything is still going well and is on track. You can assess where they are in meeting their goals, and then make suggestions accordingly.
It also represents a chance to provide additional information, motivation or other training or techniques that may be new. Staying in contact and following up as much as time permits, ultimately nourishes the relationship and makes it easier to communicate.
Not everyone will be receptive to you reaching out, as some people are more hands off, or just may want to do it their way. This is fine, as you don’t want to have to waste time chasing people down (even your own downline).
There isn’t an exact science to how to manage or lead your team. The worst mistake would be to not provide any support at all. Worse yet, for them to not even know who their sponsor is, because the only time that they even saw your name is when they first signed up. Remember in this game, your success depends on you helping other people.
