3 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Promote Your Network Marketing Website

When I first started doing Network Marketing, I remember being excited, waiting for the mail to arrive with my starter kit. It was a sample of some top selling products, and a big binder full of information about the company, products and compensation plan. All of the information that I would ever really know about my business was in that binder. I even had an old Trapper Keeper (for those who remember them) that I had put together full of marketing creative that I designed and had created.
Needless to say, that was before the Internet.
Today a kit may still consist of a sample of some products, but the binder has been replaced by a replicated company website. Marketing your business online is a must in today’s Internet and Social Media age. In order to be successful at it, you do need some kind of online presence.
At first glance you may think that it’s a great idea to have your own branded company website, but it may not be in your best interest to try to promote or send traffic to that site first. Like I said, you’ll want an online presence, but it doesn’t mean that it has to be the company supplied website.
Here’s three reasons why it may be a bad idea:
Everyone’s Doing It
Ok, I get that it’s cool to be able to just sell your products, or get people to sign up on your very own company branded website. Besides, that means that you don’t have to create a website yourself, or worry about all of the technical stuff.
But if you think about it, everyone else has the exact same website as you do. That means that there is nothing that separates you from the other thousands of marketers in your company that are using that website.
The main issue, however, is that there is no way to do any On Page or Off Page SEO on those sites. That also means that the other consultants can’t as well, which is nice, but still means that you are on a level playing field with everyone else. You need to differentiate yourself from everyone else, or else it comes down to ‘why should I join you over someone else’?
No Way To Capture Prospect’s Info
Although you can’t rank your company site any higher on search engines, you can still drive traffic to it through paid advertising. The problem with that, however, is that if you aren’t capturing your prospects information, then you may be wasting money.

There may be times that a prospect visits your page after seeing you on Facebook, looks at your opportunity, and then goes elsewhere to do additional research. If they never come back to your page then you’ve lost a potential sign-up. If you don’t think it’s common, I’ve done this with the prior two Direct Sales companies that I’ve joined, before my latest one.
I learned about the opportunity from seeing one consultants page, and upon further research of the company, I came across another consultant’s blog. I went with the consultant that had the blog, because they looked like they would be a better sponsor.
Even if you don’t have a blog, having a lead capture page can help you stay in contact with your prospect. Even if you only get their email addresses, you now have a way to stay in front of your prospects, that most other marketers with your company don’t.
It Sells Your Network Marketing Company, Not You
You may have heard the saying that people buy into people, not product or opportunity. That’s why it’s important to differentiate yourself, like I talked about earlier. This is where branding yourself comes into play.
It’s no secret that Network Marketing has a high failure rate. Although there aren’t any notable statistics regarding how many people switch companies, and how often, I suspect that most marketers make at least one switch, before stepping out of Network Marketing altogether.
A company replicated website, ties you to one company. Any efforts made to drive traffic to that site will likely be branded with that company in mind. If you switch companies, then your marketing efforts will have to start all over again.
Not only will having a blog allow you to differentiate yourself from other marketers in your company, you also have the ability to rank higher in Search Engines, and it allows you to brand yourself.
While a replicated website ensures that you have an online presence, it would be beneficial to go above and beyond simply relying on it for your online marketing. While a blog will help you the most, at the very least, a single lead capture page can make a big difference. Doing this before sending people to your site to buy or sign up, can be the difference between success and failure.
